Green Tree Python (Morelia viridis) ("Red-Eye" Jayapura)
Captive bred and hatched October 2007
The locality, of which these beautiful gtp's names came from, is a town called Jayapura. Jayapura, also known as Djajapura lies in eastern Indonesia and is the capital of Irian Jaya (Papua). This beautiful chondro-rich region rests at the foot of the Cyclops Mountains on the northern coast of New Guinea. While Indonesians may know Jayapura for it's major trading port, we as chondro locality enthusiasts know it as a region that has yielded a very unique variation to the "mainland" chondro type. The parents of these beauties exhibit strong blue dorsal striping and have a very clean overall green tone as compared to many other mainland types. If you like blue, the Jayapura is for you! :) The Jaya's can exhibit both ontogenic colorations of yellow or red and while these are the yellow variety they also exhibit a very rare "red-eye" trait. It is common for red Jayas to have red eyes but very uncommon for yellow Jayas to have red eyes. Many collectors point to red-eye yellow Jayas as having more potential to be striking adults! We hatched out a couple more of these unusual little beauties so don't hesitate! These babies appear (from limited handling) to be very calm and of course hammer their thawed pinkies with gusto!
As always when dealing with Frantz Herpetological you can expect a smooth and effortless transaction. Rest assured we will stand behind our animals, guarantee their health, lineage, AND that they feed.
