Green Tree Python (Morelia viridis) (Merauke)
Captive bred and hatched October 2008
Merauke is the southernmost city of Indonesia, closely bordering Papua New Guinea. In fact, not far from Merauke you can find eucalyptus trees as well as kangaroos. Meraukes closely resemble the impossible to get, Cape York locality, which resides nearby on the Cape York Peninsula of Australia.
Meraukes are known to be light green to lime in color. One of their most notable characteristics is the line of white markings down their back. The purity of the line varies naturally. Scattered yellow on the ventral region and blue on the dorsal at full maturity is common as well.
An interesting surprise that helped to catapult this locality into the spotlight was when a pair of F1 siblings were bred together and subsequently produced the first known albino chondro. It is not known how far the heterozygous trait reaches into Merauke populations, but the future is certainly going to be interesting.
I held this group back from last season so they are well-started and already starting to change!
As always when dealing with Frantz Herpetological you can expect a smooth and effortless transaction. Rest assured we will stand behind our animals, guarantee their health, lineage, AND that they feed.
